Pieter Pot is an online waste-free supermarket where consumers can buy groceries using a circular packaging. It is a playful brand aiming to make sustainable groceries easier. The groceries are bulk goods packed in reusable pots by Pieter Pot. The consumer then collects the empty pots and returns them through postNL with their next delivery. Empty pots are washed and refilled. This circular process reduces the need for large amounts of plastic packaging.
However, how could we improve the current pots to make the sustainable life of the consumer easier? I was in the lead of the value proposition framework and was part of the concept development. While the new pot was developed further, I designed the product label for the current pots.

Sustainable label
A new product label was designed, integrating the colourful and playful elements of Pieter Pot’s branding. These simple elements allow for consistent use, immediate recognition and gives the pots a stronger visual identity.

The challenge was…
to clearly inform the user about the product, the ingredients and how to store it. The labels are available in two sizes; a round label which can be used for all big pots and bottles, and a rectangular label for the smaller pots, for example spices.
The amount of information on the label depends on the product the pot has been filled with. It was a puzzle to find one way of arranging the label for both products that need a lot of information or very little information. Arranging the information in a clear overview now allows consumers to easily find what they are looking for. Besides this, the preparation information has been added so consumers don't need to search for this on the Pieter Pot website anymore.

Coming soon
At the moment a new sustainable lightweight pot is being developed that will replace the current pots. I was part of the concept development for this project. How can we add value to make it easier for the consumer to do sustainable groceries?
In this process, we kept all stakeholders in mind but focused on the logistical - and operational challenges as well. The new pots are more user-friendly and easier to store and transport. Due to the pots being lighter, they even have a lower CO2 footprint. The new pots will be launched in the near future.
