You broke your leg and you are prescribed to only put a certain amount of weight on your injured leg. But how do you know whether it is the right load? SensiStep Home is a product-service system which makes it possible to monitor the load you put on your injured leg. Both patient and healthcare professional can get insight into the patient’s rehabilitation performance at home.

Get better where you are most comfortable; at home.
Patients with lower extremity fractures often have trouble keeping the load on their affected leg within the prescribed weight-bearing limits. Because of the ageing population patients nowadays are often stimulated to continue their rehabilitation at home.
I worked closely together with patients who were afflicted with lower extremity fractures and healthcare professionals who guide these patients to understand their needs. In each phase of the design progress, these final users were involved and were asked to give feedback about the concepts and the prototypes that were made.

SensiStep Home is composed of an inner shoe and an outer shoe. It is designed for both patients with or without a cast and can be worn in- and outside of the house. The sole of the outer shoe contains sensors which measure the load put on the affected leg without disrupting the natural walking motion.

Get better.
The patient can review the measured load via the SensiStep Home application. Next to this, it is also possible to check the partial weight bearing performance real-time and/or to get notifications when exceeding the prescribed weight limit. This way the patient can adjust and put the correct amount of load on his affected leg.
